Your resume gets you in the door, but your interview determines whether you are offered the job. So, here are our top tips to help you in an interview:

1) Personality

It sounds cliché, but it’s true! Someone who comes across as genuine and confident about themselves and their opinions will prove far more successful. Building rapport is fundamental in an interview; you will be more authentic and memorable. Connecting with the interviewer on a personal interview will help you stand out of from a group of potential candidates with impressive achievements and backgrounds.

2) Research

Doing your research on the company is crucial. Researching the company will allow you to learn valuable information about their business, clients and the industry in general. In turn, this will increase your confidence throughout the interview. Showing an understanding of the company and even giving your own insight reflects your own work ethic, and also gives you the opportunity to ask your own questions. A great interview is a two-sided, so make it feel more like a discussion!

3) Ask your own questions

Leading on from our last tip, be sure to ask questions! How are you going to decide if you want the job without finding out more information? As a candidate, it is important you evaluate the company and make sure they are the right fit for you too. Asking questions also makes you look engaged, interested and enthusiastic – all qualities an employer will be looking for!

4) Body Language

They say it only takes seven seconds to make a first impression. Body language quickly gives the interviewer a great deal of information that is not conveyed verbally. It reveals whether a candidate is confident, focused and capable. Examples of this may consist of, keeping your arms open and uncrossed, sitting tall and maintaining eye contact. By implementing these body language techniques, you’ll project confidence and leave a good impression.

5) Stay positive!

Being positive and genuine in an interview can help an employer easily relate to you. The power of a positive mindset makes all the difference; it increases your confidence in the fact that you deserve to be there and that you can outshine other potential candidates!

Of course, looking good on paper is vital in the first stages of your job search. However during an interview, it is these little tips which helps the interviewer decide which candidate is best suited for their company.
